Andrey Klassen, born in Irkutsk in 1984, studied at the HfBK Dresden from 2005 to 2012, most recently as a master student of Ralf Kerbach. In 2012/13, he explored the prominent art-historical theme of the seven deadly sins in a series of large-format ink paintings. In doing so, he was less interested in building on traditions of artistic representation than in scrutinising aspects related to the times. By taking a view that goes far beyond the familiar theological dogmas, he has managed to extract highly pointed, sometimes bitterly ironic aspects from the subject.
