Supporters of the Städtische Galerie

As early as the mid-1990s, a circle of art lovers was committed to founding a municipal art museum. Following the decision to establish the Städtische Galerie Dresden, the association was founded in 2001, which became the  »Freundeskreis Städtische Galerie Dresden – Atelierbegegnung e. V.« in 2005 through a merger with another renowned art association.

The merger expanded the spectrum of our association's activities: In addition to the material and non-material support of the Städtische Galerie through the acquisition of works of art and the »Popularisierung« of its aims, direct contact with Dresden artists and art trips for the members were added.

Acquisitions

One of the main tasks of our association is to increase the art treasure of the Städtische Galerie Dresden - through acquisitions, donations and the mediation of purchases in favour of the gallery. Over the past 10 years, the association has been able to acquire or participate in the acquisition of more than ... works of art. We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to all the donors who have made this possible – together with a heartfelt request that they continue to support the Städtische Galerie and the Freundeskreis!

The DNN art auction

Together with the Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten, the Friends of the Gallery organise an annual art auction. Art lovers and collectors have the opportunity to acquire high-quality works of art and at the same time make an important contribution to the promotion of the Städtische Galerie.

Works by renowned artists as well as exciting new discoveries are presented at the auction. From paintings and sculptures to graphic works – the selection is diverse and inspiring and will make the heart of any art lover beat faster.

Auctioneer Dr Gisbert Porstmann, director of the municipal museums and founding director of the Städtische Galerie, will conduct the auctions in the Sparkassenhaus on Güntzplatz. The participating artists receive 50 per cent of the proceeds. One third of the other half will go to the Friends of the Städtische Galerie and two thirds to a social project.
