The special exhibition "Behauptung" presents a new artist and his work in Dresden: Christian Macketanz was appointed Professor of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in 2010. For almost three decades, he has continuously represented an artistic position that builds on traditions of figurative painting without seeking orientation in current trends such as the expressive painting of the 1980s or the figuration of the New Leipzig School. Using very economical means, Christian Macketanz explores ways of visual communication in his pictures by means of facial expressions, gestures and body language. The description of locations and pictorial spaces recedes into the background or disappears completely. To narrate without being illustrative; to suggest without emphasising the enigmatic; to paint without relying on the pathos of painting - these are the problems that the artist intensively explored. In this way, he developed a highly subtle and yet completely unpretentious artistic oeuvre. The exhibition will present an overview of early works from the 1980s through to very recent paintings.
