Bernd Hahn (1954 - 2011) is one of the most important artists in the Dresden art scene. His work is characterised by clear linear structures, intense fields of colour and energetic brushstrokes. Powerful large-format paintings as well as small, sparse drawings of great intensity emerge from moderately placed distances, rhythms, ratios and proportions. By oscillating between free movement on the one hand and an underlying, often strict compositional order on the other, Bernd Hahn has found an unmistakable visual language. The Städtische Galerie Dresden has dedicated a monographic exhibition and an extensive catalogue to Bernd Hahn's work. They provide an insight into various groups of works in his oeuvre.
