Since September 2015, 12 students from the advanced art course at St. Benno-Gymnasium Dresden have been working intensively on the painting "Sunrise" by Otto Dix. The expressionist landscape from 1913 was purchased for the municipal art collection in 1920, ostracised as "degenerate" in 1937 and confiscated. in 2012, the work was repurchased from private ownership. The students conducted aesthetic research into the motif, style, temporal context and object history of this important work for our collection. They developed their own artistic responses to it, which are now being presented in the Neue Galerie project room and in the Landhaus staircase. In addition to paintings in acrylic and works on paper, the main exhibits are videos, some of which were filmed using stop-motion technology.
