Destruction, loss and suffering are existential experiences. Artists approach these themes in different ways, whether as a direct notation or in reflection on them. Their works make it possible to experience the significance of incisive events.
The Städtische Galerie Dresden offers an overview of positions that have received little attention to date, in which the processing of personal experiences meets interpretations and allegorical transformations of historical caesuras. The exhibition includes newly discovered prints by ASSO artist Willy Jahn, which were created in 1945/46 in a destroyed Dresden, as well as later explorations of violence and war by sculptor Horst Weiße and Dresden draughtswoman Elke Hopfe.
