The Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung in the Free State of Saxony, together with the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden, has handed over an important collection of artworks to the Städtische Galerie Dresden. The works of art were acquired years ago by the Ostdeutsche Sparkassenstiftung in Berlin. They include works by such important artists as Gerhard Altenbourg, Carlfriedrich Claus, Hermann Glöckner and Wilhelm Müller.
We are presenting the new acquisitions together with loans from the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden collection. The occasion for this collaboration is the 200th anniversary of the opening of the first savings bank in the city of Dresden on 3 February 1821.
