Since 1996, the Foundation for Art and Culture of the Stadtsparkasse Dresden has awarded two Hegenbarth scholarships to master students of the Dresden University of Fine Arts every year. The 2008 winners are Stefan Eichhorn and Franziska Leonhardi. Both artists will be presenting the works they created as part of the 12-month project scholarship at the Neue Galerie. In his objects and spatial interventions, Stefan Eichhorn deals with forms of architecture and industrial design. For the exhibition, he is planning a multi-part sculpture entitled "Spaceship One", the concept of which is based on an examination of a competition organised in the USA for the private development of a functional spaceship. In Franziska Leonhardi's work, collage and silhouettes, gouache and pencil drawings form a field of tension between artistic means of expression. Her latest project is a silhouette film in which she tells a Native American myth. In doing so, she removes pictorial boundaries and shifts the narrative into real space through theatrical scenes.
