In his new installation "Hans Staden TV" for the Städtische Galerie, Jan Brokof (born 1977 in Schwedt/Oder) combines the medium of video with sculptural objects and graphic works such as photographs, drawings and collages.
In terms of content, the artist is interested in the connection between the Brazilian adventures of the German farmhand Hans Staden (1525 - 1579), which he turned into a novel in 1557, and his personal experiences in São Paulo. Hans Staden TV" presents stereotypes from the colonial era and reveals how they live on.
