Ljuben Stoev – And you can't see the ones in the dark

The artist Ljuben Stoev died in Sofia in December 2016. He graduated from the Dresden Art Academy in 1963 with a diploma under Lea Grundig and had been active as an artist in his native Bulgaria ever since.
His paintings, drawings and object installations are characterised by socio-critical themes. His ink drawings in particular show the influence of his Dresden training right through to his later work. Since the 1990s, he has combined his figurative drawings dedicated to social outsiders, those "in the dark", with objects to create three-dimensional installations.
