When Petra Kasten from Dresden travelled to Ukraine in 2011, she came across neglected, weed-covered fields whose boundaries were barely recognisable. The former utilisation and order shimmered up from the depths like a historical sediment. This visual impression gave the artist the impetus for a new group of works: condensations of verticals and horizontals overlap and interpenetrate each other. Structures - fields - emerge from this superimposition of grids, more schematic than tangible.
