Roland Hettner studied in Otto Dix's class at the Dresden Art Academy between 1931 and 1933 and emigrated to Italy in 1936. There he created paintings and numerous sheets in various graphic techniques. The artist's family donated a selection of works to the Städtische Galerie in 2005. The presentation of the donation follows on from exhibitions on Ernst Bursche and Erika Streit, which present artists from the circle of former Dix students.
