While working as an artist, the illustrator Thomas Ranft came across the mysterious figure of H.P. (Heinrich Porstmann). He was immediately fascinated by the find. Old fibrous paper becomes the medium for enchanted, miniature ice landscapes. Minimal graphic interventions create mountains, ice floes and a horizon. The extraordinarily fine drawings form a series of 365 works in total - an annual cycle. The sheets and some drawn maps seem to document a polar journey. The sensitively designed landscapes demand closeness from the viewer, but then lead him into the far distance of icy realms in miniature. An artist's book by Thomas Ranft was published to accompany the exhibition.
