On the occasion of its 20th anniversary, the Städtische Galerie is dedicating a major exhibition to the visual artists of the Saxon Academy of Arts under the heading "What to do with beauty?".
Since ancient times, artists, poets and philosophers have been grappling with the question of what beauty is, how it is determined and why it still seems so important to us today. The concept of beauty has always been related to the values of a society. Through political and economic upheavals, scientific advances, utopias and changing fashions, the ideals of beauty have changed radically time and again. The multi-layered, questioning and at the same time challenging theme "WHERE TO WITH BEAUTY?" is associated with change. It will provoke unreserved and controversial, ironic, philosophical, poetic and provocative reactions, even - and this is explicitly implied - beyond the scope of the arts.
