With Christine Schlegel (born 1950 in Crossen), the Städtische Galerie Dresden is focussing on a bustling, versatile and powerful artist. Her work encompasses a wide range of materials and genres.

Even during her studies at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, Christine Schlegel sought alternative forms of expression beyond ideological constraints. As such, she belongs to a generation of East German artists whose work evolved outside official doctrines – idiosyncratic and deeply personal. Since then, she has consistently developed her own distinctive visual language, working across nearly all artistic disciplines. The special exhibition features paintings, drawings, overpaintings, collages, artist’s books, and films.
