Frank LippoldThe secret perspective

8. Feb 20 16. Aug 20

Frank Lippold belongs to the generation of artists who, still socialised in the GDR, studied at the HfBK Dresden during the upheaval of the 1990s. His artistic position is characterised by a classical concept of the image and a solid artistic training in craftsmanship, but also by the themes and questions of modernism. Since 1994, Frank Lippold has been exploring the technique of woodcutting in a very special way. Starting from the classical printing process, he discovered the aesthetic intrinsic value of the carved printing plates and began to "draw" on them with woodcutting tools. Starting with architectural motifs and images of the landscape, he developed fragmentations as well as multi-perspective and anamorphic abstractions and incorporated painting with coloured primers on his image carriers. Our exhibition shows the artist's gradual progression towards his latest group of works with impressive, completely non-representational motifs.
