One of the discoveries from our exhibition »Echtzeit« is the painter Grit Richter. She has found a way to bring emotion onto the canvas, developing a visual language that answers the question of figuration versus abstraction in a distinctly personal way. Her paintings are constructions inspired by a wide range of aesthetic elements – from the smooth surfaces of Pop Art to the semantic ambiguity of Surrealism

»I think art is universal. It can overcome social boundaries and show what we have in common. We can only meet the challenges of our time with powerful gentleness and humanity. Soft power is all about that ongoing strength that makes hope and solidarity obvious.«
Grit Richter

Key themes in her work include love and intimacy. Emotions such as fragility, exhaustion, and connectedness seem to be absorbed and reflected back by her paintings – quite literally, in fact: a phosphorescent glow, as if emanating from within, is one of the defining features of Grit Richter’s approach to colour.
