Hegenbarth Fellows 2009: Jan Kromke and Elisabeth Rosenthal

An exhibition in the "Projektraum Neue Galerie"

11. Jun 10 8. Aug 10

Since 1996, the Dresden Foundation for Art & Culture of the Ostsächsische Sparkasse Dresden has awarded two project scholarships for master students of the HfBK Dresden every year. The 2009 winners are Jan Kromke and Elisabeth Rosenthal.

The diverse landscapes of the volcanic island of Iceland are the starting point for Jan Kromke's current oil paintings. In his atmospheric, yet strictly geometrically composed paintings, the characteristics of a place recede into the background in favour of individual natural phenomena. The visual indeterminacy of a landscape created in this way allows the viewer a wide range of possible associations.

Drawings, costumes, murals, but above all installations, sculptures and performances are Elisabeth Rosenthal's means of artistic expression. The master student of Monika Brandmeier presented an installation and the video work of a performance, which took place on 10 June at the opening of the exhibition. Her works emphasise the interaction between space, installation, artist and audience.
