Martin Mannig paints and draws figuratively. Comic and manga figures, elements from horror and action films as well as set pieces from fairy tales and folk art come together in his pictorial cosmos. The artist aims to create ambiguity by taking artefacts from popular culture and staging them in the picture in such a way that their story or inscribed character is often reversed against their visual appearance. The starting point for the concept of the exhibition is the juxtaposition of his pictures with objects that inspire them.
