Regardless of whether he brings whimsical details, lifestyle clichés, set pieces of tourist places of longing or darkly romantic landscapes reminiscent of film stills into the picture - Stefan Krauth makes his presence felt as an author in his photographs. The artist integrates traces of his own presence into his photographic works by interposing and emphasising distortions that are otherwise regarded as "quality defects", as they typically arise in the process of photographing existing originals. His quiet but enigmatic images thus become individual interpretations of the original photographs, but also interpretations of the imaging process itself.
Stefan Krauth studied at the HfBK Dresden until 2012, most recently as a master student of Prof Ralf Kerbach.
