Peter Makolies - over half a century of artistic work in Dresden. Part of his oeuvre is present and well-known in Dresden. At the same time, a previously hidden treasure trove of paintings and drawings has emerged. Paintings, drawings and sculptures by Peter Makolies are now being presented to the public for the first time in a major retrospective. The Städtische Galerie is thus honouring the creative and artistic life's work of an original and extremely creative artist in Dresden, whose work has also inspired subsequent generations.
Peter Makolies
Born in Königsberg in 1936, grew up in Wölfis/Thuringia
1953-1956 Apprenticeship as a stonemason at the Dresden Zwingerbauhütte
1955-1957 Attended drawing courses at the VHS Dresden. Together with Winfried Direske, Peter Graf, Peter Herrmann and Ralf Winkler (A.R. Penck), he forms a circle around Jürgen Böttcher (Strawalde).
1964 Master craftsman's examination for stone sculptors
