As a master of Dresden Impressionist landscape painting, Otto Altenkirch (1875-1945) is overshadowed by Gotthardt Kuehl and Robert Sterl - unjustly!

Create fantastic landscapes!
Have you ever wondered what happens in a painting when you look away for a moment? Otto Altenkirch painted beautiful forests and gardens in which the light sparkles marvellously. But there's still something missing: your ideas!
What we do together
First, we sneak through the museum like detectives and take a close look at Otto's paintings. Where is the sun hiding? What colours does the shadow have? Then you'll become little master artists yourselves: your world in a picture. We take copies of Otto's landscapes and change them. Anything goes: stick a spaceship in the forest, make it rain colourful sweets in the garden or paint yourselves in the middle of the flower meadow. Colour magic: With brushes, pens and great craft materials, you can bring the old pictures back to life. This will be your very own work of art - a mixture of Otto's nature and your fantasy realm!
Educationalfocus
Playful learning: We encourage picture observation and fine motor skills through collage and painting. Result: Each child takes home their own "mixed media" work of art.

"If pictures could speak" – Writing workshop on Otto Altenkirch
Behind every brushstroke by Otto Altenkirch lies a mood: the rustling of leaves, the shimmering of the midday heat or the stillness of a winter morning. In this workshop, we become language jugglers and give the colours a voice.
What we do
We leave the hectic pace of everyday life outside the museum door and delve deep into the world of Impressionism. Together, we discover how to put feelings into words: What do you feel when you stand in front of the "Buchenwald"? What does the "summer day" smell like? We collect adjectives, verbs and metaphors right in front of the originals.Own poetry: You create your own texts directly inspired by Otto's landscapes.
Educationalfocus
Aesthetic education: training perception and concentration skills.
Language development: creative writing and expanding vocabulary in an inspiring environment.at the end, the pupils hold their own poem in their hands

"Sky blue & rustling leaves" – nature studies after Otto Altenkirch
Otto Altenkirch was a master at capturing the moment: The fleeting passing of a cloud or the dense weave of sunbeams in a forest of leaves. In this workshop, we become nature observers ourselves and explore how to capture fleeting natural phenomena with brush and paint.
What we do
We take a close look at Altenkirch's works. We focus in particular on:Sky & Clouds: How did he paint the depth of space? What colours are in a white cloud?
Trees & foliage: How are light and shadow created in the canopy? We examine the dabbing and stroking technique that makes his trees look so lively. With the sketches and impressions from the gallery in their luggage, the pupils become active themselves.
Sky studies: We experiment with gradients and colour mixtures to create dramatic or calm sky moods.
Tree portraits: We practise capturing structures, movements and the play of light and shadow.
Technique: We work with tempera, watercolour or pastel chalks to optimally depict the softness of the clouds and the structure of the leaves
